How to Shorten Long Text
This guide will walk you through using the “Standard Link” feature on the dco.ink platform to convert a long text string into a concise, shareable, and clickable short link.
Core Functionality: Shortening Text
The primary purpose of the “Standard Link” feature is to encapsulate a long piece of text within a short link. When a user clicks this short link, they will be directed to a page containing the complete text content.
Step 1: Access the Standard Link Page
- Open your browser and navigate to the dco.ink Standard Link page:
https://www.dco.ink/slink.
Step 2: Input Your Long Text
- In the input area on the page, locate the “URL/Text” tab.
- Switch the mode to “Text”.
- Paste the long text content you wish to shorten into the designated input box.
Step 3: Create the Short Link
- Click the “Create Short Link” button.
- The system will instantly generate a unique short link (e.g.,
dco.ink/xyz123). - You can copy and share this short link. When others click the link, they will be able to view the full text content you entered.
Advanced Functionality: Advanced Options
When creating your short link, you can click on “Advanced Options” to configure the following advanced features:
1. Custom Short Code
You have the option to assign a custom, more memorable short code to your generated link instead of using a random system-generated code.
- Function: Makes your link cleaner, more brand-relevant, and easier to remember.
- How to Use: Enter your desired short code in the designated field (e.g., if you enter
my-long-message, your short link might becomedco.ink/my-long-message).
2. Password Protection
If you want your text content to be private or restricted, you can secure it with a password.
- Function: Adds an extra layer of security and access control to your short link.
- How to Use: Check the password protection option and set an access password. Users must enter the correct password to view the text content after clicking the link.
3. Expires At
You can set a time limit, causing your short link to automatically expire after a specified date and time.
- Function: Ideal for time-sensitive content, such as event announcements or limited-time offers.
- How to Use: Set an optional expiration date and time. Once this time is reached, the short link will stop working, and users will no longer be able to access the text content within it.
By leveraging these core and advanced features, you can efficiently manage and share your text content, making it more professional and controlled for any scenario.
